The Official DontStayIn Review of Creamfields 2008 - What a show!!

With a choice of so many festivals this year, it’s becoming more and more difficult for clubbers to decide where their money will be best spent, and who out there is capable enough of providing a good show. Next year will probably be even tougher to decide if anyone else chooses to have a pop at it. One thing is for sure though, I WILL be going back to Creamfields.

For those of you that are regular users on the site, then you’ll know that this year, DSI joined in the festival fun and co-hosted the main Cream arena at the 10th Anniversary of what is certainly an amazing festival.

I think I speak on behalf of the whole team of Pro-spotters as well as myself when I say that Creamfields lived up to, and in a lot of cases exceeded expectations on their overall performance.

We got on site at about 2pm on the Saturday, and people seeming to be getting really into it and ready for a weekend of pure and simple ‘Aving it!’. After a quick briefing with the spotter team, it was time to hit the festival, and get snappy. (Well, the pro’s got snappy, whilst I just grinned at people and handed some cards out!)

Costumes ranged from Dangermouse, Thunderbirds, Teletubbies, Banana Man, and the Joker to name just a few, but clearly thousands of clubbers really going that extra mile to enhance the entertainment for the whole crowd.

The English weather as per usual decided to piss on the parade for a bit, and sent everyone scampering for the nearest tent. We decided that now was a pretty good time to take a look in the Cream and DontStayIn arena, where Hernan Cattaneo was livening things up. I can only view that particular downpour of rain as a good thing, because with most people now inside what was a very busy tent, the atmosphere lifted right up, and for me, Creamfields 2008 had just officially gone off for the first time, and it seemed to set up an awesome trend for the rest of the day.

Whatever rumours have floated about in previous years about Creamfields, it’s obvious to me that the team at Cream have been very dedicated to ensuring the safety of their clubbers is a top priority. Security and Police were both thorough and vigilant both on the gates, and inside the festival. If people came dressed and looked like they were looking for trouble, then they simply weren’t allowed in, ticket or no ticket. In fact I think that the sheer amount of presence that was at the festival was enough to put most off of attempting anything stupid. Equally though, they were not intrusive on anybody’s fun without a good reason.

Overall, the sound over the festival was clear and loud (just how we like it) Best set for me this weekend had to go to Paul Van Dyk. With him being placed right in between Sasha and Eric Prydz, I was half expecting him to come on and play some of the slower and more proggy stuff that he has been lately. However, the legend didn’t fail to deliver, and opened up straight into trance which continued all the way through. I’m not actually up on trance tunes at the minute, but he played some awesome trance, and time after time the crowd were going mental.

Other sets I rated right up there were Fatboy Slim, RobTissera Vs. Quake LIVE, Eddie Halliwell and the small part of Tiesto that I did catch.

For me, there definitely seems to be a more electric vibe at northern events. The crowd just seems to be that little bit more up for it, and you can see the DJ’s really feeding off this energy and getting into their sets more.

Thank you to Andy and everyone at Cream for your hospitality shown towards myself, Gee and the rest of the DSI team. Also, a massive big up yourselves to the pro spotters that came with us: Wo0, IainC, Sam-E, Roscopico, Tickett, The-Wrongun, Pat-Menatwork, Missvickie and Dr-Beatz.
